DIY LCD Monitor Repair – Important Guidelines for Troubleshooting LCD Monitors Like The Experts

DIY LCD monitor repair is absolutely possible, but there are a few guidelines that you need to follow in order to be successful.

Look, I only have a high school diploma, yet I own a small but very successful repair business. I'm not bragging okay?

I just want to make a point that it's possible to repair LCD monitors yourself. Here are some guidelines to help you become skilled in the art of troubleshooting LCD monitors without formal education.

(1) Get a good DIY LCD Monitor repair guide.

You know what, fixing LCD monitors is a skill that I picked up relatively recently – around last year. Before that I worked on CRT monitors and other electronics equipment.

See, I managed to find a good quality repair guide and with some practice, I learned how to troubleshoot and repair LCD monitors rather quickly.

(2) Essential tools for DIY LCD monitor repair

Without the right tools, you can forget about troubleshooting defective LCD monitors.  So, these are the must have tools: oscilloscope, digital capacitance meter, flyback tester for testing a large assortment of coils, analog meter, high voltage probe for testing voltage in a safe manner and ESR tester.

(3) Good electronics component testing skill is essential

If you have a solid electronics component testing skill, you'll be able to quickly detect or isolate problematic components/parts. This in turn, will help you solve the cause of failure much quicker.

For example, let's say you have an LCD monitor with display shutdown problem. Usually, in order to determine the cause, you have to test the components in the inverter board section.

Components like push pull transistors, buck diodes, capacitors, backlights, inverter IC and so on. That's a lot of testing to do huh? Very time-consuming isn't it?

Well, not really! If your testing skill is up to scratch, detecting bad components can be accomplished very quickly.
