My laptop screen goes black when connected to LCD?

I have two laptops one works perfectly but when I plug the other one into my LCD the laptop screen goes black. I can still see my desktop on the LCD but my screen on the laptop is black help?

if you look at the function key combos you'll probably find one that toggles between the settings, for example laptop lcd, desktop lcd, or both.
