Atmel introduced the 32-bit floating point unit with AVR microcontroller (MCU) series
Micro-controller and touch solutions leader Atmel (Atmel Corporation) Electronica 2010 in Munich, Germany announced the launch of the first show with a floating point unit (floating point unit, FPU) 32-bit AVR ? Microcontroller devices (MCU) series. The new AVR UC3 C MCU series targeting industrial control applications, with high processing power, the real 5V operation, high-speed communications and advanced security and unique combination of reliability, and uses a series of small and micro-package.
IEEE 754-1985 standards-compliant FPU can improve the Atmel AVR UC3 CPU computing performance, accuracy and dynamic range. The inherent floating-point computation allows design engineers to use full-featured suite of tools to design the sensor and controller applications. In addition, advanced mathematical calculations help to enhance motor control, such as wider use of robots and audio signal processing, filtering and noise suppression properties.
Atmel AVR UC3 Haakon Skar, director of product marketing, said: "Phase the other microcontroller product line, AVR UC3 C series of smaller footprint, and to provide more processing power. The new MCU series offers higher performance, allows us to integrate the new FPU, without increasing power consumption of the microcontroller. These new 32-bit AVR microcontroller further expansion of our industrial control applications aimed at the 8-bit Powerful AVR MCU series lineup. "
UC3 C series is Atmel's first high-speed communications and development for 32-bit AVR microcontroller family, designed for operating voltage range of 3.0 to 5.5V, 5V to achieve the real work. 5V supply voltage is one of many industrial control applications in order to obtain a better signal to noise ratio and the request, particularly those that require large switching currents or very sensitive analog applications. UC3 C series with a 9-layer data bus, 64 4KB high-speed SRAM, and a set of hybrid high-speed communication peripherals, including a 100Mbps Ethernet, dual CAN ports and a full-speed USB interface. Larger device also includes a SDRAM interface. System designers and the use of hierarchical data bus and separate SRAM architecture, high-speed communications can easily eliminate the conflict, to avoid packet loss or system performance degradation.
UC3 C series also integrates Atmel UC3 L series and was 8-bit AVR ? XMEGA ? products, peripherals used in the event system. The event system allows without CPU intervention to achieve communication between peripheral and a peripheral operation to ensure the completion and operation of other peripherals for the start of the delay between the two cycles, and ultimately to eliminate jitter and traditional CPU interrupts can cause unpredictable delays.
In addition, UC3 C series also includes FlashVault code protection feature, which allows a kind of safety technology on-chip flash for some Flash programming and locked, creating a secure storage space on the chip to protect the privacy code and software IP. The code stored in the FlashVault can normally, but can not read, copy or debugging. FlashVault the code protection feature with a device can be used to load the math library and other important software or encryption algorithm, when the software from a secure location to a trusted partner may not be, it can be used to avoid software development, debugging and programming use of other source code.
The new series is available UC3C to 22x22mm TQFP144 from 9x9mm QFN64 package a variety of options. The power of these devices with existing AVR microcontrollers Atmel UC3 A and B series products the same.
