There was a time, when people would never consider buying gold plated jewelry or, if they did, they didn't tell people about it.  Such jewelry, also known as "costume jewelry" or "gold filled" jewelry, was considered second best and anybody who could afford the price would always buy solid gold jewelry.

However, times have, thankfully, changed.  Even though gold is still a widely desired metal, the stigma attached to gold plated jewelry has largely disappeared as people began to realize the tremendous advantages from buying and wearing fine gold plated necklaces, earrings, bracelets and other fine jewelry.
