Do I need the "1080p" HDMI cable or will any HDMI cable work? And, how long before I need an amplifier?

Just bought a 1080p TV, had a 1080i before and I used an HDMI/Dvi Cable for that connection. Now I'm using HDMI into the TV, but I see some HDMI cables say they're "built for 1080p" or something like that, leaving me with the impression I should get those vs. other, cheaper cables. I have a PS3 so 1080p is pretty important. Also, I'm looking at needing a cable anywhere from 9-12 feet - will I need a signal amplifier? Thanks!

Even HDMI 1.0 cables were compatible with all the HD signals including 1080p.

There have been some changes to the specification, but some up-scale cable companies are trying to scare people into buying their $100 cables instead of cheaper cables which give 100% the same digital signals.

Some of the early cables had issues with the huge amount of data in a tight bundle at lengths about 15 ft. Slightly thicker wires and better inner-cable insulation solved the problem.

Amplifiers may be needed for runs pushing 30-50 ft (like through walls and up to a projector). But you are advised to just try a long cable first.
