1) Digital Doesn?t Mean HDTV: You should always remember that just because a television is digital, does not mean that it is also HDTV. Make sure to check very carefully before buying, as you could end up very disappointed!
2) The Viewing Area: Another important fact about HDTV sets is that the viewing area will be a lot smaller than the equivalent on a normal TV set. Therefore, if you want to get an equivalent viewing area of your old TV then your HDTV is going to be bigger than your old TV was.
3) Widescreen: All shows and movies that are broadcast in HDTV are going to be widescreen, which means a 16:9 aspect ratio. Therefore, make sure you buy a widescreen set! You should also try to buy a TV that has a resolution of 1080 to give you the best picture quality.
4) HD Ready: You can save yourself money by buying an HD ready set, rather than a set with an HD tuner. This is suitable for those who have satellite or cable TV, as the HD programming will be sent directly from your cable/ satellite receiving equipment to your television.
5) Your HD Service: If you want to benefit from being able to watch HDTV programs then please remember that you are going to need to be signed up to the HD service of your cable or satellite provider in order to do so. You must pay for a service in order to watch HDTV. Not only this, but if you use TIVO then you must make sure it is the special HDTV TIVO service!
6) Your Warranty: An extended warranty can be very useful for such an expensive purchase, so that if anything goes wrong you will always be covered with a repair or a replacement. This warranty could be standard one year, or it could last for a number of years so be very careful to check before buying. It could be worth paying a little extra for a longer warranty.
These are just some basic tips when it comes to buying your HDTV. It is up to you what you purchase, but you should try to get the best quality to ensure it lasts as long as possible. Using the best equipment means you should be able to get the best HDTV picture that you can! And this not only includes the television itself, but the cables and accessories that you buy.
