VGA Cables - Dazzling Features and Differing Prices

Who would have thought that almost thirty years ago fifteen small metal pins could be wired together to control the output of multiple audio/visual devices and still be around and widely used today? When Video Graphics Array (VGA) cables were introduced they hit the technology world by storm as there was no standard monitor cable. The details that were used to create VGA cables became the function of computer monitors and High Definition televisions. Those small fifteen pins control the colour and connection that are seen as video output. Because of the great design and dependable product, the cables have withstood the test of time and technology.

When the VGA cable was created, no standards of quality were required. VGA actually set the standards. When looking at a cable, one can quickly see that higher quality is delivered through coaxial wiring and insulation which causes increased thickness. When quality cabling is not purchased a signal crosstalk (ghosting), which is when unwanted currents are crossed through wires, will occur. Also, because of the lack of quality standards in VGA, it is better to purchase the shortest length of cable possible to receive the best quality.

When looking at the fifteen pins in the connector of VGA cables, it can look confusing and needless. However, if the pins are numbered from one to fifteen beginning at the top right and moving to the left each specifically given function is obvious. Within three of the small pins, the basic red, blue and green colour signals are carried. Moving down, within two of the pins, vertical and horizontal sync signals carried. Next data and clock signals are within another two pins. Ground signals are also spread within the pins. Another great function of the cable and its connector.

While purchasing VGA cables, one must understand even though they may seem like the dinosaur of technology, they are still around for a reason. The impressive gold plating and interference shielding that are provided are some of the cable features that many continually search for. The cables are available at differing prices and with a wide range of features. However, the consumer must decide if VGA is the right option and if the signal sent is as good as the digital options out there. Because of the cost effectiveness, if the model of output device being used allows for an input of VGA there is money to be saved with this option.
