COST EFFECTIVE HYBRID POWER SYSTEM

Hybrid power system combines two or more modes of electricity generation together using renewable technologies such as solar photovoltaic (PV) and wind turbines. Hybrid systems provide a high level of energy security through the mix of generation methods that often incorporate a storage system (battery, fuel cell) or small fossil fueled generator to ensure maximum supply reliability and security.

Solar and wind power hybrid systems are good combination for offshore unmanned power platform. Wind turbines are costly than large solar arrays, therefore fewer panels are required to power your load. Similarly, hybrid power combines with alternative power system to provide cost effective remote power applications. The main advantage of hybrid power systems are:

• It is more cost effective than large solar arrays.

• Very less solar panels are required to power your load.

• The combination of solar and wind generates in all kinds of weather.

• It converts heat directly into electricity by using the voltage generated at the junction of two different metals.

• Heat is generated by using natural gas as a fuel.

• It is cost effective and environmentally sound power solution.

• It also provides commercial access to oil and gas reserves otherwise inaccessible.

• Production of lower carbon emissions from sub sea generation of electrical power.

• It also reduces the environmental impact of oil exploration and production.

Combining two or more hybrid power systems will make much more steady production of power, with less potential for outage in case one source of power is lacking. Wind Generators can only produce power when exposed to wind, similarly, solar panels can only produce power when exposed to sunlight. Solar panels are thus useless during the night and on cloudy days. For the most reliable production of energy, a hybrid system of alternative energy is no doubt very beneficial.

If you need a steady and constant production of power while off the grid, then adding an engine driven electrical generator to your hybrid system would be best. The purpose of this generator is to charge your storage batteries in case there comes a day in when no wind or sun are available to provide power. While this may seem convenient, the catch is that such a generator would require a heavy supply of diesel, gasoline or propane. The amount of fuel needed to supply engine driven electrical generator would depend entirely on the size and the number of batteries needed.

Hybrid systems take advantage of the best attributes of multiple systems in order to provide power regardless of the time of day it is needed in 24 hours of period. If your particular location has the necessary acreage, or skyline clearances and elevation coupled with the quality winds year round then a hybrid system will be one of your best choices in satisfying these power requirements without being overly dependent on utility provided grid power. Also it should be noted that by adding a battery system to this type of configuration could allow you to take yourself completely off-grid, so the available monitoring systems for both wind and solar also make to keep track of the performance of these systems and the power they are generating a snap.
