This device is the hub of your system and will receive the audio information from your television or stereo and then send it out to the appropriate speaker in your surround sound set up.  The size of the room is very important when choosing a receiver. If you have a small room then an audio output range of 50 watts per channel is adequate. However if you have a larger room then you will need more power and you should be looking at around 150 watts or more.
