How to Update Video Card With New Drivers Easily

Most of the time, video problems can be traced to missing, corrupt, or outdated video drivers. Occasionally, a poor installation of hardware or a defective video card will be the culprit, and rarely there can be other superfluous reasons that result in video problems.

Upgrading or installing a new version of Windows will often cause issues related to your video driver. This is because the new operating system utilizes a different set of parameters than the previous OS. As a result, video drivers can become outdated when you update Windows. The same goes for when you install a new card. The new card requires specific drivers so that your OS can process the new hardware.

Confirm Compatibility with Your Operating System

When you bought your video card, you probably received a disk with the card. If this is the case, then you could reinstall the disk to see if that helps. Look at the card's manual to ensure that the card is compatible with whatever version of Windows you are running.

How to Locate Drivers Online

You might have to actually navigate over to the manufacturer's website to download updated video drivers. If this is the case, visit the "Support" or "Downloads" section of the manufacturer's site. These categories will most likely contain what you need for your current version of Windows.

You can figure out specs related to your video card by opening the "Personalization" category found with the "Control Panel." This category contains information related to your display settings. So, if you need to check on anything specific, then review everything in the Personalization category.

Windows Update and Driver Update Programs

If you need to update your video driver, you also have the option to utilize Windows Update. Windows Update is a specific tool that will browse through an online database of drivers and Fix Its to attempt a resolution to your problem. It's a good way to solve your problem, but sometimes it's such a general fix that it won't address your specific problem.

One of the best ways to update drivers is to use automatic software. The right kind of driver update software will actually look through your system for outdated drivers, and then replace them with new ones. It's a quick and easy way to update your video card.
